  1. hello

    can you please tell me:

what is the full life-cycle of a video file that is sitting on [any server] and ends up being streamed-to / viewed by the consumer?

    --

for example, this company show its architecture:http://www.pandastream.com/arch

it seems to me all they are doing is running FFmpeg + FFserver and charging 99 a month for it. (like a zillion others are now) .. am I correct?

    --

this company show a server solution that I don't fully understand but it looks like a good approach: http://erlyvideo.org/files

    --

I also have a AWS cloudfront account that I can not figure out how to stream from, but I assume I would be just as well off doing it from my own server if configured right

    --

what do I have to do (on the front end and back-end ---360 degrees ) to set up this for my own site so that i can do multi protocol encoding and (ultimately) playback/streaming on any device using video tag

    --

i could do the encoding locally and then stream from server it if that saves alot of expense and hassle, I'm not talking about live video...i talking about setting up a VOD website that works on web + mobile

please let me know what you think / if you can help

    Thanks

Are you asking about ffmpeg, or ffmpegX, a Mac program? It helps considerably to fill in your computer details.

I'll move this thread to our Video Streaming Forum where you may get more answers.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. Sorry that is, yes- Ffmpeg + ffserver

Ffmpegx could be a good solution for local encoding i guess but i don't think it does what i described?

also, isnt Ffmpegx also not being actively supported any longer?

ffmpegX has active users (And developers, AFAIK), but it's a Mac program. So if you don't have a Mac, not much use.

Yes, see these previous posts. (1) Will ffmpegX work in Snow Leopard? (2) 10.6 Snow Leopard compatibility (3) How to install ffmpegX on 10.6 without Rosetta?
