  1. I'm trying to put my copy of family guy on my PSP the trouble is that each episode seems to be in with another VOB file. Like dvd episode 1 will be in VOB 1 but the end of it will be in VOB 2 where episode 2 starts is there anyway to extract the episode?

I want to convert it with ripbot later on for my PSP.

Software such as DVD rip cant extract the right episode, i will get episode 1 but it will be missing the end.

You may use DvdShrink in Author mode with no compression.

Then you aren't doing it correctly.

The DVD format stores titles in Video TitleSets (VTS). Within titles are chapters. A titleset may require one or more VOB files (up to a maximum of 9 per titleset). A VOB file may not exceed 1000MB in size. Therefore any title may require a part of a single VOB, or multiple VOBs, depending on the size. All of this is described in the IFO files.

Depending on a how a disc has been edited/encoded/authored, multiple episodes may reside in a single title, which may span several VOBs. This makes it harder to extract a single episode because it isn't a title, but a set of chapters within a title.

If you rip the entire disc correctly, then open it in DVD Shrink, you will see all the titles available on the disc. In Re-Author mode you can shift titles from the right-hand side to the left-hand side to create a new structure with just these titles in it (but no menus). If you find that there is only a single title then you may have to trim it down to just the parts you want. To do this, drag the title to the left-hand pane, then right-click on the title and you will get an option to select the start and end points for that title. Use this to isolate just the section you want.

  5. I don't get it, when i play the DVD there are 5 episodes to pick from but when i use dvdshrink there are 10 all at around 24min - 21min. I would like each episode separated to make it easy to play back on a mobile device. DVDshrink will not do that will it?

You haven't said how long each episode is supposed to be. It is also possible, depending on how the disc was authored, for Shrink to show each episode as being listed more than once. Again though, if you go into Re-Author mode, you can drag a single episode across to the left and create a disc with just that episode. From there you can convert it.

There's probably an option to play all episodes in the DVD's menu. DVD Shrink would read that as duplicating the episodes. It's a half hour show so 21-24 minutes would be the normal length without commercials. The first five the individual episodes and the second five are the same episodes repeated because of the play all option.
