  1. Hi everybody, first of all let me apologise if this sounds a lil dumb, but I'm kinda n00b when it comes to video conversion.

I'm currently on hols and before I came I encoded a few DVD's to MP4: H.264 with aac audio - specifically so I could watch them on my laptop, but also with a view to being able to sync to iPhone if wanted/needed. Anyway, after some fiddling and test encodes with handbrake I used to iPhone profile but turned the resolution up a little higher than what the iPhone is (480 x 320). The idea with this was that it would still retain decent quality when blown up to the laptop's screen res (1280 x 800).

Anyway, it worked and synced to iPhone great and even played. So I launched handbrake again and continued to encode 7 more DVD's. I never even tried to sync them untill I got here. Problem is they wont sync! I'm guessing I didnt choose the right profile in handbrake as all the encodes are at full DVD resolution (and play fine in iTunes).

So I had the idea of just selected the MP4 in handbrake, selecting the CORRECT profile and re-encoding. Which appeared to work a treat. Except I end up with a 5 hour long file. The movie runs fine (on the lappy) but after that its just hours n hours of a white screen. The resulting file size is around the 700mb mark... the same size as the original MP4.

This file will also sync to the iPhone just fine, and it will play, however as soon as I try to "seek" it will crash iPod.app - rather annoying.

I also tried to reconvert using miro video converter but the results where identical.

So, is there anyway to re-encode properly? I would just encode from the VOB files but I deleted them to save space (didnt think I'd be needing them now!).

    Thanks,
    Jay

You could try "fix" the new mp4s in avidemux, open the mp4, cut it(set start and stop), save as a new mp4. Under audio and video choose copy.

Or try reconvert with ipodme or xmedia recode.
