Hi I was recording an HD 1080 TV programme via WinXP CAPDVHS method. The recording went well and the file is playable using VLC & MPC. But because I set the recording 30 seconds before the programme starts, the resolution changes from the 720 resolution programme to the 1080 programme so basically the mpc window expands to 1080 when the programme i intended to record starts.
I tried to cut the video using videoredo but an error occurs : "TN Video Thread: Video Dimensions changed."
Is there any way else that I can edit this file without error? How?
Thanks in advance

I've noticed CapDVHS can't deal with a resolution change while recording. Gives a "no PID found" error downstream.
Why did the resolution change? Did you change channels after starting recording? I've made that mistake.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

It's good that the file works and playable. But just wondering if it is possible to edit the commercials and how. -
What channel is this? I've yet to see a broadcast channel change formats during the broadcast day. If they did, many HDTV sets would glitch badly as well.
CapDVHS cannot handle a format change while recording. The metadata doesn't seem to update.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

That isn't the way it is done on US TV stations. They broadcast in a single standard all day which is 720p/59.94 for KOMO-DT.
The show itself is most likely shot in film or 1920x1080p/24 video but is then converted to various release formats. KOMO-DT would be taking the 720p/59.94 network feed.
Global BC would most likely get the 1080i videotape. Local broadcast players can play 1080i/29.97, 720p/59.94, 704x480p/59.94 or 704x480i/29.97 as broadcast locally.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Most 1080i TV stations would have 720p->1080i format converters. Are you certain the show is being broadcast 720p?
Another example for ABC is "Lost". It was originally broadcast in 720p/59.94 format on ABC but the edited master is 1080p/24. The Blu-Ray's are 1080p/24. TV stations order the format they broadcast.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

In that hour, a Seattle channel will show canadian commercials for BC viewers because the signal is exactly the same as Global TV. -
This wouldn't be done in the USA. Live format switching would cause glitches in many HDTV sets (especially the older ones). It would also disturb digital recorders that don't support format switching.
The net result for CapDVHS is the same as changing channels from a 720p to 1080i channel on a cable box. The resulting m2t file becomes unreadable on most edit programs probably because of errors in the m2t header.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
