Hi all,
To start with, I should mention that I'm dealing with a film that's public domain, from '62. It's called "Carnival Of Souls". Even before "trying" anything with it, it's already bizarre and seems to be in sync sometimes and out of sync other times, but never too much.
My goal: From the start of the film, take between 15-30 minutes of the video/audio and save it as a segment, rather than the whole film. Then, save the Wave audio from that segment and tinker with it to create (at least) a Stereo mix. I attempted to do so with VirtualDub.
My obstacle(s): After creating my sound mix and converting it to an AC-3, I also had to convert the AVI to a MPEG-2, in order for it to be authored to DVD. It seems that after I converted the video, the audio is royally messed up. I'm not even sure how to describe it. There might be a second or two of skew in one moment, then in another scene there's up to 15 seconds of skew!... what's worse is that it's so bad that at times it's difficult to even determine if the audio is too late or too early
I know that if the film is out of sync by the same amount throughout the whole film, it's just a matter of adjusting the skew. However, I don't understand this "in sync at times", "out of sync by a couple seconds" and "out of sync to a disastrous degree" issue.
Does anyone know what I might've done to cause this and (hopefully) how to fix it?
Thanks,
Justin
