XMedia Recode Just installed older version and it works just fine. Re-downloaded the latest version and it also failed to install. "Houston, we have a problem."

XMedia Recode , few recent updates contains lots of bugs... installtion, ffmpeg and x264, too much all-to-gather.
even if it installs, ffmpeg crashes very often. -
Just use old version until the bugs have been fixed.

@ Baldrick
thanks for the link and hosting older versions.
but, lost the track completely out of series of buggy updates.
hard to figure-out which one to use. -
I installed 2258, but it crashed immediately on trying to run.
Reverted to 2253, which seems okay.
I've mentioned this before, but I can find no way to give feedback to the author, and no forum where he participates.
I found an email on his site: support@xmedia-recode.de but he has never replied to my emails.
Anyone have better luck?Last edited by AlanHK; 18th Aug 2010 at 07:31.

2258 installs/runs/ and converts fine. win7.
if you are really using win2k as your profile computer specs list, i wouldn't expect much if anything current to run. if not please update your listing.--

It happens to me using WIN XP SP3. I'll wait for 2.2.5.9 and give that a try.

do you have directx 9 installed? it's about the only requirement.

Yes. DirectX 9.0C
Which is the latest version for both Win2k and XP.
That has been required since version 1.

Looks like he's testing it on Win 7, as that seems to be the only version that works. -
There's a new version out, 2.2.6.3, with "minor bug fixes".
But same problem, still crashes on opening for me.
Tried the portable version, exactly the same; crashes.Last edited by AlanHK; 26th Aug 2010 at 21:28.

2.2.6.3 seems to have improved h.264 codec but the crop is now fouled up (-at least horz.) I've seen similar in past: one thing fixed or improved, something else broken. You may have to wait until your particular problem is discovered or address, OR use the latest older version which works.

It works fine here.
When does it crash? Start? Start encoding ? Random? Or?Last edited by Baldrick; 27th Aug 2010 at 09:55.

Every buggy version has one or two.dll as raw program file. I am sorry to mention that earlier version (do not remember which one) where one.dll has been spotted out as a malware/virus by 3-or-4 major Anti Virus Scanners. Furthermore it tries to access, read and manipulate memory locations and some version had a problem of memory leaks too! Too much to say...
But definitely, Linux gave me total control (Run-or-Kill) over each and every single process. So leaving others just to plug-n-play. I AM OUTTA HERE. -
With the release of 2.2.6.3 I don't think their programmers have a clue as to what is happening with their new recent updates. How can they be reached and informed? The site is all in German, which makes communication impossible.

I'm happy to say with the new release of 2.2.6.5, the "crop problem" of Xmedia Recode has been fixed. Yeah! Whether the install problem of the OP has, -who knows? He should try it, though.
