to make it more clear i need to hard code subs to my mkv maybe to reencode to mkv again or a program to encode it to dvd with hardcoded subs i dunno
-
thanx ulap ill try it soon since i found another solution but i think yours might be better ,
if anyone else has a different method please post . -
1. Load you mkv into AVStoDVD
2. Add the srt file ('Title'/'Subtitles'/'Add Subtitles'). If the subs have similar filename than the mkv and are in the same folder, you will be asked to add them immediately.
3. Go to 'Title Edit'/'Subtitles', toggle off 'Auto Subtitles Setup' and toggle on 'Hard Encoded'
Simple, isn't it?
Let me know
Bye -
edit: whoops. Forgot. .srt is the one format FAVC supports. In DVD Options Tab in the Bottom Input, it says Subtitle Files. Load the .srt for the selected Title. Check the Hard Subtitles box. The subs will be burned in. Leave it unchecked for selectable subs.

,
miles ahead i tries favc twice while it did hardcode the subs in hcencoder it put credits at the front and doubled the subs so i had two hard subs and the same when i used quenc but it didnt author my vobs with muxman so no ifos abd bups but dw ill work it out THANKS!! guys -
It sounds like you used both the FFDShow subtitle filter, and the FAVC setting. But in any case it takes a few runs with just about any encoder to get the feel of how it works. They all have little quirks.
If there's only one source file most of the time I encode to DVD I just use HCencGui to encode the video to .m2v file and DVDAuthorGui to mux the audio back in and author. But I don't care about menus and all that. Stick the disc in and it plays with no menu. For episodic DVD then sometimes I'll do a menu, but the simplest. No motion, no audio.http://milesaheadsoftware.org/

You can also check the box in FAVC Advanced Tab "don't start batch file" and change the settings to Subtitle Creator in the scripts. That is what it uses to generate sup/ifo files. A million ways to skin the cat. Just not good to do too many at once or you get an echo.

In FAVC you have no options except embedded sup or hardcoded sub or maybe booth.
ffdshow gives you all options under Subtitles (placement, background, font size, color, alpha etc.
So if you leave FAVC alone and rename the srt and mkv the same name and configure ffdshow for subtitles
you get all the ffdshow subtitle options -
Why not cut a small piece out of the file and make some test subs. See how it comes out with various schemes. The only one who should decide which is better is you, since you'll be the one watching. There's more than 1 right way to do it. Try a couple and see what you like. The other consideration is if you need to process many movies then batch limits your choices. Unless you can batch macro a one at a time tool maybe with AutoHotKey or some script or other.
