Hello, I am trying to transfer my old 8mm videotapes with my camcorder through the composite output on the camcorder and the quality is terrible. Here are some samples:
This is a sample of one of the tapes http://www.mediafire.com/?3h6eue22kv89cg4
This one is a live capture that I hooked up directly to my computer: http://www.mediafire.com/?02eux19ey456oxv

Could be dirty or worn heads. Does the video play properly to a TV?

What hardware and software are you using to capture the video?Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

The video looks the same on the TV and it cant be bad heads because I recorded that one thing live. And I use a hauppauge HVR-1600 capture card with wintv. And it is a sanyo standard 8 camcorder made in 1994.

If it plays that way to a TV it is a camcorder issue not a capture issue. Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Yeah I'm thinking about buying a digital8 camcorder to digitize my tapes.
