  1. Yah, so the configging ffdshow don't work, and I suspect it's because of rundll32.exe since I see that one trying to run in ProcesExplorer

    So:
    1. Are there other ways of configging this?
    2. If not, how do i run rundll32.exe? I guess there's some protection/anti-virus program preventing this, or something.

    1: ffdshow Audio decoder configuration

    Target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe ffdshow.ax,configureAudio

    Start In: "C:\Program Files\ffdshow"

    2: ffdshow Video decoder configuration

    Target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe ffdshow.ax,configure

    Start In: "C:\Program Files\ffdshow"

    3: ffdshow VFW configuration

    Target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe ff_vfw.dll,configureVFW

    Start In: "C:\Program Files\ffdshow"

    ====

    Rundll32.exe :

The rundll32.exe process is responsible for running DLLs and placing its libraries in the memory. The rundll32.exe process is known as a command line utility program, and it performs its embedded functions along with the rundll.exe file. Rundll32.exe works by invoking a function that is exported from a specific 16-bit or 32-bit DLL module. However the only DLLs that you can call with the rundll.exe and rundll32.exe files are the ones that are only specified to be accessed by these processes.

Anything beyond this is considered suspicious

  3. Do ffdshow icons appear in the Tray when you play a video? You can configure ffdshow from them. Or open GraphEdit, insert the ffdshow Decoder Filter and config from there. Or play a video with MPCHC (you may have to disable MPCHC's internal decoders to get it to use ffdshow), right click on the window while it's playing and select Filters -> ffdshow video decoder. Or open VirtualDub, select Video -> Compression... select ffdshow Video Codec, press Configure.

Note some of those will configure the DirectShow filter, some the VFW filter.

  4. @BJS: thanks, but Rundll32.exe just doesn't run at all. do u have other ideas?

@ jagobo: there's no system tray icon when i play videos.
but the configging in Vdub works, or seeems to, i see a "ffvfw MPEG-4 Codec" option.

I will reboot and report back later. thanks.

  5. Configuring via VirtualDub will configure the VFW portion of ffdshow. It will have no effect on the DirectShow portion -- which media players will use.

Check > start > run > msconfig > startup tab ... if anythings using rundll32.exe it should appear.

Write "command" portion which is linked to verify the process is legitimate

The configurations are listed under "program files > ffdshow" using this version > ffdshow
