  1. Hi there. I've recently been recording some stuff onto DVD using my DVD recorder. Usually to make copies of these, I would just make an ISO file and burn that to a new DVD, which is fine but for these, I was wondering if there was a way I could make the files smaller with minimal quality loss and be able to place multiple files onto a single DVD rather than the one. I managed to achieve this result by ripping the ISO to my HDD, using a program to convert the files to AVI and then used DVD flick to burn them to a DVD, however, the quality was pretty poor.

That is because you are expecting too much.

To go into a little more detail than hech54 did you can only go so small with a file size in a given codec before you lose quality.

Everyones perception is different of course so your tolerance may be different than mine and different from some guy down the street. BUT suffice it to say you can't cram say twenty episodes and convert them divx and except them to look exactly like the original dvd or broadcast quality.

Yes you can do pretty well but the more you to try shrink the file the worse the quality will look for a given video using a given codec with all things being equal. There are filters and stuff you can use to tweak videos but in the end you can only squish it so much before it breaks up and looks bad (especially using full resolution).
