  1. Ok, I bought a component cable for the PS3 that allows me to games in HD resolutions on my DVI telly (with sound).

    Ok, here's my prob...

My Acer laptop has an HDMI out (like my PS3 does!) but it doesn't work on my laptop. I connect it to the laptop HDMI slot and to the component slots on the back of my tell but all I get is a black screen and a weird noise...

Did I have the res on my lap just a little too high (I did have it at it's highest)? I haven't tried it on my lap again but I get the feeling it should work

Edit: I already have an HDMI cable to connect my lap to my telly but I feel that this component cable should work, too.

No wait... Im thinking of the wrong cable. lol It doesn't work on my PS3 either. Sorry. lol

  2. Any ideas? To make things a little clearer: It's the cable with the one HDMI fitting on one end and the red (audio), white (audio), red (video), blue (video), green (video) at the other end.

What's it for? What its purpose? I have an idea but I just can't get it to work on anything

Are you seriously asking why plugging a digital output into an analogue input doesn't work?

There are 2 video out ports on the PS3. One is labeled multi-out (Composite/component analog) and the other is labeled HDMI. Your component cable is for the multi-out port. You also need to configure the PS3 to send the correct video signal for the TV when using that port. I don't have a PS3, so all I can tell you is to read the instructions to find out what to do.
