  1. I have some .tp format video files. Is there any way to generate thumbnail for Windows 7 Explorer?

You'll have to follow this guide and study the registry strings related to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

You'll should notice the registry shellex strings are identical ... avi, mpg, wmv

  3. I duplicated the .ts shellex strings for .tp since both formats are about the same but couldn't get it to work.

I think they missed the part where you need to use ffmpeg as the default TOD decoder in order for it to work ... or a player capable of playing tod files and checking options for it to be associated with the file type.

  5. BTW thanks for your helpful replies, Bjs.

The registry edit did not work...

so I just renamed the extension from .tp to .ts and manage to get the thumbnails.
