  1. Just out of curiosity, do you have adobe acrobat? if so, you can make a text file there, save it, then use after effects to make a short movie file out of it. here is a link to a tutorial page that may be of help.

will DEF. check that out...thanks! I did, however also find a program called Swish that creates flash movies for you with text effects...VERY VERY easy to use...though it only exports flash format...I found it to be great, but will like to see the link you sent and give that a shot too...I have all the adobe products, but not a lot of time to learn them all
Thanks again for the info all, it is of great help!

  3. I've used flash for something similar. I used it to create a beginning for my movies. If you do use Flash, some colors don't show up well on TV, like yellow. What I did was export it as an avi file and then converted/joined it using tmpgenc. You might get a beeping noise when joining though.

  4. You can do it with Photoshop and Imageready too. The easiest way would be to create a black background (720x480 or whatever), create a text layer and enter all the text you want to scroll, resize it to what you want the output to look like (obviously after resizing the text it won't all fit in the image at once). In Imageready do an animation, and assuming the text will run bottom to top, make a frame with the top of the text layer just below the bottom of the image, and make a second frame with the bottom of the text just above the top of the image. Tween it to however many frames you want the final output, export it to a .mov file and encode to mpeg in TMPG.

It's an odd way to go about it, but it seems to work pretty well. Maybe one of these days I'll get some time (and patience) to learn some Flash...

  6. I've found Sonic Foundry's Video Factory to be one of the easiest and most powerful video editors. It took me a total of one hour to get smooth, professional titles and scrolling text over the video.

I have also been successful overlaying transparent images over video.

I recently had to scroll text on a screen. What I did was type it up in Word then copied and pasted it into Adobe Illustrator. Saved as an illustrator file, imported that file into After Effects and scrolled it.
