I've posted this in the newbie conversion forum, and have also done a search for it, with no luck.

When I edit an AVI in Premiere 6.1 and export to a new AVI file with the DivX 5 codec, the new file has good audio. But if I also create a .divx file, that file seems to have no audio.

Since P6 can't import a .divx file (and the Divx player 2.0 dosn't play any sound), how can I check wether any audio actually exists in the file?

    Any DivX experts?

Switch on "Write convertion log" it will tell you what it's done. Your .divx has no audio if the original audio is not supported.

AVI audio format 0001 is not supported

Well the logs don't seem to mention anything about audio. But they do all have this in common:

they all say [built with mp4file library: Version 0.20, 26 Feb 2002]

    aviin_open() : aviin_readheaders() failed
    B-frame detection failed

Well, again, thats for compressing to a DivX AVI file. I'm interested in creating a file ending in the .divx extension.

When I do that, the new file has no sound.

    Thanks for replying though.

I think its telling you that the audio input must be of that type.

    Well i've tried that too.

It's weird that there seems to be no setting for audio. I'm talking about the first page of the DivX settings window. At the bottom of the window, it has a check box to "create a divx file".

Is there any player that can show me if there is indeed audio in the file? At least I could see if it's an encoding problem or a playback problem.

A far as I know only the Divx player that is provided with it.

I have it as I have seen a few Divx5 movies, But I don't use it to encode. 4.8 will do me, when I want it. I don't think your divx file has any audio, have you tried it will a standard capture ?. Ill give it a try...

One step foward and three steps back...

DIVX PLAYER 2 caused an invalid page fault in
    module DIVX PLAYER 2.0 ALPHA.EXE at 017f:005b8e17.
    Registers:

DivX 5, dont support the old DivX audio codecs, I have read to install 3.11 alpha again, also Nimo
