How to crop mkv

I have a movie(percy jackson) but movie does not fit my 16:9 TV(because of black bars)

I want to crop 150 left and right to fit to the screen (i guess to fit perfectly the nominal value of cropping is 170)

I used to do it with megui(cropping not changing ratio) but now i cant, it gave me an error like "no video sequence header found, check your pids"

Like i said i just want to crop the movie(to fit - yes i know i lose some visuals from left and right but i am ok with it)

Do you know any program to do that cropping or can you help to fix my problem with megui

Use the zoom function on your TV/player

Cropping the video means it will be blown up more, which will reduce the quality. Plus you will have to re-encode it, which reduces quality.

The error message you are getting seems to indicate that the source is corrupt or at least poorly encoded. You could try AVI Demux, which has visual cropping filters

After this, i try megui with 3 different mkv movies to crop it gave the same error (no video sequence header found) all the three of them. i used to do cropping with megui but now i cant

what am i missing? what did i do wrong?

i want to say mkvmerge gui program has the cropping option, but when i give the cropping parameters it make no diffence

still the same not cropped movie, my mkvmerge cropping parameters are 150(left),0(top),150(right),0(bottom)

Yes you can crop with Avidemux; but if you do that you can't "copy" the video, because cropping is a video filter.
So you have to choose a video codec and file format (the same as the original if you prefer).

(And NO application can crop without reencoding. There is no way around it.)


If you get errors when you try this, you might try just using "copy" mode without any cropping to make a new file, which hopefully is better behaved, and then opening that. This usually works for AVI files at least.

i can not choose x264 instead of copy

please help me what is that error on megui (no video sequence header found)

at megui when i click file indexer(instead of one click encoder) and choose FFMSIndex it gave me no error(no video sequence header found)

so i can crop my movie but first my movie's size decreases so much (60 mb to 9 mb, i crop 150 left and right) is it normal? i dont want to change the quality of my movie(bitrate) like i said i just want cropping to perfectly fit my tv

second i had tv(samsung LE40B651) i can watch mkv movies with usb harddisk but when i did the cropping with megui my tv said "unsupported video data" but it is mkv and supposed to work with my tv what am i doing wrong? (before i said previous version of megui i did the cropping just fine(NO ERRORS) and i can watch it with my TV)

last question when i did all my things with megui(except size i cant find how to set the size parameter) it gave me a new erreo said "The colorspace of your clip is not in YV12...
Do you want me to add ConvertToYV12() to the end of your script" it is yes or no question when isay yes it says "Your AviSynth clip has the following problem:
AviSynth clip is in I420 not in YV12, even though ConvertToYV12() has been appended.
Continue anyway?" it is again yes or no question and i say yes
