  1. Philips DVP3560

    Hi, I just bought this DVD player, because the region code hack on a Philips is always simple & they play well. But I don't understand the instructions offered on the website. They say:

    Go to Preference Page in Setup
    Enter 138931

    I can't figure out where to enter the number. The preference page offers a menu (audio, password, etc.) - which one should I select in order to enter the number?

    Thanks!!

  2. Ah, I found the answer in a forum post from an older Philips player:

    AFTER getting to the Preferences,
    HIT the DOWN arrow 1 time ("Subtitles" will be highlighted, but that doesn't matter)

    THEN enter the hack code.

    Otherwise inserting the number has no affect.

    Works great, and very easy otherwise.
    Maybe an admin could add this missing step to the hack post for this player?

    Thanx!

    Hi! I just purchased a Philips DVP3560 player. I researched this player carefully, and everything I researched led me to believe that it could be converted to region-free status. I pressed "Setup" on the remote, but, alas, I couldn't find the "Preferences" menu, where the directions above say the "138931" code needs to be entered. Is the "Preferences" menu the one with the check mark in a circle? If so, that option is greyed out on my machine. Any way to un-grey it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks in advance, Kerry

    willowtree - I hope I am wrong about this and someone provides you with the answer you need, but what you wrote sounds suspiciously like Philips has changed the player to prevent it from being made region free. This does happen unfortunately.

    Actually, JMan, allow me to put your mind at rest. The solution was actually very simple - it was just a case that I had a DVD in the tray. When I removed the DVD, the "Preferences" menu un-greyed, and I was able to input the code. The machine has played flawlessly so far every American and European DVD I've put in it. Thanks for the reply, Kerry

  6. No disk on the tray ;
    First press "Setup" on the remote ;
    To find the "Preferences" menu, hit the down arrow till you see 'preference' written in the upper part of the screen;
    Then you enter the 6 digit code "138931" ;
    If it works, you should see number "1" appearing on the screen ( I guess it's your area code) ;
    Use the up or down arrow to reach number "0" then press OK.

    Since I posted to this last year I have actually bought this player (in August in the store Best Buy in the USA) and the region code hack described here
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/philips-dvp3560/10922
    does work. The one on Feb. 7, 2011 is what I followed.

    However, if you update the firmware on this player it may break the hack.
