I just got a new Yamaha RX-V367 Receiver from ABT. I hooked it up to my Samsung TV and a DVD Recorder and my Direct TV. I also hooked it up to 1 center Bose speaker and 1 Sony subwoofer. It works fine for my TV, DVD Recorder but I hooked up an audio av line to my MP3 player and the other end to the receiver and I hear the songs weakly thru the subwoofer but that is it. My friend says the reason is because I need to get R & L Speakers because that is where the sound will come out of, NOT the center speaker. Is this true? Is there something else I can do? My daughter wants to play her songs on her itouch as well

  2. NO ...... stereo aux input comes out of left and right front speakers, you will be hearing dvd and tv through the tv speakers, but aux input does not go through the tv so no left and right sound .all you will be hearing through the amp even when watching tv will be the sub sound and speach sound if the dvd is 5.1 audio. you need at least 2 more speakers

1 C and 1 Sub, and NO L or R? Wow that's unusual! Not sure if that's all there is to the problem, but that SURE would make a HUGE difference. C+Sub (and Surrounds) should be considered ADD-ONs to L+R, not the other way around.

Also, you could be having MAJOR crossover problems. Let's say the Bose expects it's subwoofer to kick in at ~180Hz and below, and your Sony sub expects it's satellite speakers (L, C, R, etc) to kick in at ~100-120Hz. Well, that means that NOBODY is outputting the area of 120-180Hz!!! This could be compounded by mis-settings in the Yamaha - Especially the choice between Full and Satellite for the L,C,R speakers in the Yamaha menu (I know, as I've got an earlier model Yamaha reciever).
One major reason why you should buy the same brand (and even better, the same family) for all your speakers.

    Hope that helps,

    Scott

obewon, that may necessarily not be true, it completely depends upon how the tv/dvd sends out it's sound (and the OP didn't specify). I know ALL my sounds from ALL my devices go through my Surround Reciever (incl. TV/DVD).
That way, I have complete control over loudness, quality, sound placement, etc.

BTW, I have a 9.1 system! (L-R) (L) (C) (R) (R-L) in the front arc. (LS)mid (LS)back (RS)back (RS)mid in the rear arc, and the sub in the corner. I couldn't ask for better, unless they were Flush/Soffetted Genelecs or something.
