I have a 200 min movie on DVD which I want to copy in no more than 4 x 80min discs. Hence I tried the Bitrate Calc on vcdhelp.com. It showed me that I must encode the movie at 1940 Kbps (approx) for this to happen....So I went to DVDX and did all the settings and kept the bit rate at 1900 Kbps with audio at 224 Kbps to make sure that it would fit in 4 Cds even after i add menus etc..

But in the "Output Settings" of DVDX it shows the "Time to Encode" as 03:20:00 which equals 200min and "Estimated Size" as around 3300 MBs (approx). Now if I use 80 min discs (700 MB) then how can I fit this 3300Mb video on 4 discs...Won't it exceed 4 discs ?

How much MB of SVCD video can be fitted on a 80min disc ?

it should fit, when you do a vcd svcd music cd it records it in a differnt format on the disc. it will allow you to hold 811mb on one cd. it shouldnt be that bit (3300mb) so look at hte end and check it out.

  3. Hi! 8)

DVDx is an EXCELENT program but if I were you I wouldnīt used to encode to MPEG

DVDx is EXCELENT to read DVDs, overlay subtitles, ...

DVDx canīt do VBR (Variable Bit Rate) and it is TOO slow!

Advise: If you want to backup one DVD you own to VCD/SVCD, then use DVD2SVCD that can be found around there...

If you want to backup one DVD you own to DIVX then DVDx is your software!!!

Try to use this Bitrate Calculator....

It shows CD sizes for VCD and for DATA!

    Calculates DivX and XVCDs, XSVCDs..

Thanks Tomas. I tried that bit rate calc. It gives me 1960kbps...

OK now another question...I am doing the ripping now at 1850kbps....The first and second volumes created by DVDX are 798MB each and I assume the third would be 798 MB also and the fourth one might be a bit lesser than that (as I am doing at 1850kbps)...

So if I drag this mpeg in the layout of say TSCV or Nero, then would there be space to add menus and maybe an intro mpeg...Or is the mpeg volume generated by DVDX (==798MB) just big enough to fit on the entire disc.

    Yes,

When you use 1850 kbit, there will be a place for another 10 minutes at the 1850 kbits. Just try Bitrate Calculator with increasing time...

But still if its 1850Kbps, then also the 1st vol created will try to fill up the first disc...It should not matter what the bit rate is. The bit rate would only affect the length of movie (in minutes) that can be fit in a 80min disc...The number of MBs would still be the same though...

So can I still fit in the menus

So, then you should create one big file and for cuting use for example DV-Tool. Then you can cut any length you want.

Some short menus should fit on the first CD. I also often use overburn, so there is space in advance. No problem of burnin 80 mins CD up to 82mins
