What is the best and most accurate way to convert a DVD or VOBs into an MKV file while retaining the AC3 or DTS soundtrack for archiving films?
I don't want any compression - I want the full quality of the original DVD but in an MKV format along with any subtitles and possibly the chapter information.
I have used MakeMKV but this is causing some audio sync errors when played back via a WesternDigital Media Server so need a better method.
What is the best alternative route - an idiot's step by step guide please![]()

Top of the first page on this site there is a box that says Search our site...
Type in DVD to MKV. It will give you lots of info including guides to do just that.
Also you can go to the MakeMKV forum and see what they have to say. MakeMKV has been caused me to have WD player out of sync DVCd to MKV conversions

MKV is not a format but container. It can contain files in variety of formats. Use MKVToolnix and see what happens.
