  1. Hello All,

I have a DVD that was given to me after my grandmother past away. The DVD is a slideshow of scanned pictures of her in her younger years (made to a song)...etc. I am trying to figure out if it is possible to somehow decode this video in order to download the photos. I am clueless on how to do this... if even possible... please help! Thanks!!!!

PS.. all of the files on the disc say VIDEO_TS

    Kindly,

    Violet

Nope. What you can do it open the video in a software player and take screen shots or stills of the video as you pause it. However these will not be any larger than DVD resolution - 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL). Hardly printable quality. MPC, VLC or The KM Player can all take stills. You can also try to increase the size of player and take still at the higher resolution (up to 200% or more) however these will be soft and not as clear as the DVD.

If you want quality stills for taking prints from, you are better off going to the person who created the video and asking for a copy of the images they used.

Might want to check to see if there is a folder on the disc with the original photos before they were encoded to dvd.

  4. Aw, Okay. Thank you both for responding.

@ johns - all files are unfortunately VIDEO_TS...

Maybe I will get lucky, but it was made so long ago that my luck with getting the original photos are low... but i will still give it a shot and also try to take screen shots... though it seems like it may be difficult to do...

    i appreciate the feedback...

It's trivial. Open a VOB file with VirtualDubMod, seek to the frame you want, select Video -> Snapshot source frame. The aspect ratio will be off but that's easily fixed in any image editor. If you want to fix them in VirtualDubMod you can use the resize filter and Video -> Snapshot Output Frame. Most media players also have the ability to grab frames.

I usually include a "Pictures" or "Photos" folder on a photo collage DVD - sorry to hear yours didn't have one

    a.k.a. "Jacket_P".... If there's a Jacket P folder, look into that.

Playback with media player classic would give a frame capture, but it'd only be 720 x 480 (NTSC) and not that great.

You could also try Video To Picture by http://www.watermark-software.com/

It is very user friendly. It has an interpolation function for resizing...but the results may vary...
