    Hi,

I just want to copy "Wii Sports DVD" for PAL. This is for just backup. In case the original break-up or damage.
When I inserted it in my computer DVD drive, it doesn't recognize the DVD. My computer DVD drives works fine.
    The movie DVD works fine.

    What could be the problem?
Once it recognized then next I want to copy it. Usually I use AnyDVD and ImageBurn software. Please suggest any consideration for copying Wii DVDs.

    Thanks.

Game console discs, these days, are usually written in non-standard ways so that they can't be read normally by standard CD/DVD/BR players. I believe there's a way to do it if your Wii is set up for homebrew, in which you can dump the game using the Wii to an image file on your computer. However, that's about all I've heard about it. You might get a better response if you post your question to a dedicated gaming or emulation forum.

can't be done with a normal dvdr drive. if you search google hard enough you can come up with the 4 old models of drives that could from years ago. finding one to buy is another story.

And and un-modified Wii won't recognize the copy anyway once you buy one of those LG drives that can read them.

You're better off just buying an extra copy used.

    Google rawdump for wii

    google fridump

You might get lucky - at least the drive is still cheap.

Oh, forgot: You have to mod your Wii - updates might literally kill it after such an event - Nintendo is on their game, too.

Calssfour is correct. Your Wii needs to be modded in order to recognize your backup disc. If your Wii is in fact modded, then you should know all about Homebrew. If so, then you can use a program called Wii Dumper through Hombrew to backup up your original Wii disc over your Wi-Fi network.

Wii DVD Dumper is only half the story as most "copies" will abend with an error 001 or 002. Or at least they do if you don't have a mod chip.

To overcome this use "GenericWiiPatcher" which will search an ISO and then you can burn it with appropriate software SLOWLY onto DVD-R!!

Assuming it's not chipped you need to install one of the backup players in homebrew

Some modern games still fail because Nintendo have launched a new protection using a subchannel which as yet I've sot seen cracked.

I'm not a Wii expert - I can't even switch the thing on but my son has backed up most of his games this way so the originals can be kept safe with he's away at university.

Be WARNED tho' it's very easy to brick a wii with homebrew and sometimes you can make it irrecoverable and then it's expensive!

Yep, my two-years of "non-experience" on the subject hasn't been wasted - thanks for stepping up iknownothing (Shults???) and Dawgs.

The "brick" thing always scared the crap outa me - with a "then" $420 system with a chip (that's useless now after some Nintendo updates) and another $40 "interface" added in.

At least the little fellas aren't that hard to take apart - and work when you put them back together (correctly).

And the fact that if you have a new 'black' wii these WILL NOT play disc backups. The drives physically won't read discs, BUT they can be softmodded to play your 'backups' via a USB hard drive. Or just replace the drive with a new older drive that will read discs and is a direct drop in replacement

Oh, and if you are on firmware 4.3 you're currently stuffed as the older methods of softmodding no longer work .... at the moment. This is being worked on but when its ready is unknown

You CAN upgrade your wii to firmware 4.3 if you wish by using a patched 4.3 update that is exactly the same but with the stuff that blocks and deletes the homebrew stripped out

Noahtuck, did you mean "Backup Discs", "won't", and "original discs"? I ask, because the plural of "disc" is "discs" and the contraction for "will not" is "won't" vs. "wont".

    Just wondering . . .

I've seen so many bricked consoles in the past 15 years. After the XBOX and PS2, I'm not all that fond of modding anymore. It got too complicated, and way too unreliable.

I did my XBOX mod to load games faster and for XBMC.

This is incorrect. If you are on firmware 4.3, you can still softmod your Wii. Just did one the other day.

Not sure what you are talking about here. I'm talking about taking an original Wii disc, putting it in your Wii, and backing it up to your computer. What do you mean by abend with errors? Never ran into that before.

I dont believe Nintendo launches new games with "new protection". What they may do is release a new game that will require the use of a new IOS, which can easily be dealt with.
