  1. I am trying to remux mkv files with multiple audio tracks so they only have one. The reason is because wmc (windows media center) does not give an option to select tracks. I have installed dvix plus hd so wmc can play mkv files and ac3filter for the audio. On mkv's with just one audio track it works. If multiple tracks it plays the one set as default.

Now when I remux the file, it is playable on vlc just fine but wmc will not play it. Wmc opens it and then just black screen till I stop it. No crash or anything, just no playback.

    File is > 4gb and I am running windows 7 ultimate x64.

If you need more info, ask for it. I am completely lagging any knowledge above basic level when it comes to videos.

Thank you for your time to read this.

  2. There were some changes made to mkv spec and header recently that made files unplayable by certain hardware chips (e.g like those in wdtv, popcornhour). Those devices would require a firmware update

I'm not sure if this is the reason for WMC, but you could try version 4.0.0 which is the last working version for the other devices

You can find a list of older builds in the videohelp section on mkvtoolnix

  3. So when MediaInfo tells me that mkvmerge 2.0.2 was used I should use the same version to remux it?

  4. I don't use wmc, I don't know what will work or what won't

You could try it out. I suspect 3.x would work, even 4.0.0 .

Please report back so others who have similar problems can sort it out

  5. GOAL! That did it. I was suspicious about the headers as they did not match the original mkv. I used mkvtoolnix 4.0.0 and it's now running on wmc

    Thank you very much.
