TMPGEnc can not read AVI file with DV format.
The file is probably Type-1 DV format. The format is not supported by TMPGenc. Type-1format has different structure from AVI format. TMPGenc can not read the format since TMPGenc does not support DirectShow.
To solve this matter, try to save the captured or edited file as Type-2 DV format, however, there are still chance not to be able to read the file if you are using general IEEE1394 board without codec for VFW.

I am currently captrure to type-1 ( I think ) and converting with TMPGenc 12a to SVCD. But results are not the greatest.

I read the above from TMPGENC.net and want to know What is Type-2 DV and VFW codec ?

I know VFW standards for Video For Windows .. and when I capture DV, I think it usually is in type 2 format

I guess you could open your AVI in VirtualDub and save to another format if it causes problems

Type-1 DV avi is video and audio multiplexed (interweaved) at frame base and type-2 audio and video are separated (but time multiplexed).
The latest Tempgenc can handle both.I'm always capturing with type-1:
smaleer files and ULEAD MS 6.0 can handle type-2 only up to 2GB (9min).
VirtualDub can't handle type-1 avi properly, it drops the audio track.
