The new TMPGEnc Plus 2-pass VBR definitely impresses. Now I have heard that all the old tricks (like the shorter GOP) no longer give a better quality than the standard settings.
But what about the "Use floating point DCT" option? Can I still expect an increase of picture quality or is it worthless to boast the encoding time to 15 hours just for that option?
Just one question on the side: Has anybody ever tried to use the CCE Ultra Low Bitrate Matrix in TMPGEnc?
Thanks!

use floating point DCT is always on for a CPU with SSE commands.... You can't unmark it!
For older CPUs, I think you can umark it. But yep, it increase the quality makred -
Ok, so Athlons @1.4Ghz are already considered old

Hmmm....
Let me put it in another way
CPUs with no SSE support, don't have that option marked
CPUs with SSE support, have that option always marked
Things change fast on CPU technology.... -
