I have an AVI file I need to convert to MPEG-4. Every time I try to convert it trims the file to 1 minute 29 seconds. How do I prevent the trimming. Step by step would be very helpful. Thanks.

You want someone to spend a few hours (minimum) writing out step-by-step instructions just for you? That is a lot of work and unnecessary too. MPEGStreamclip's developer was kind enough to provide good documentation with the download. Look at the sections titled "MAKING A SELECTION" through "EXPORTING TO QUICKTIME, AVI, MPEG-4" in the .pdf manual, then come back with specific questions if your problem isn't resolved.

An avi can contain almost anything, including MPEG-4 video. Look at the avi file with Mediainfo or Gspot and post the results for that too, if the manual doesn't help you with your problem.

All I want to do is stop the trimming and convert the complete file. It only converts a minute and28 seconds out of 15 minutes.

I have never used MPEG Streamclip to work with M-JPEG video, so someone else may know more about how best to convert it to MPEG-4.

For what it's worth, it seems odd that MediaInfo shows there is only 4 minutes 43 seconds worth of video. Perhaps the file is corrupted. Can MPEGStreamclip play the .avi file all the way through? There are items labeled, "In" "Out", and "Trimming" at the bottom of the main program window. What times are shown for them?

For some reason it only shows part of the clip. It shows the complete clip in Quick time and VLC. I don't know where to go from here, so I will just edit it in iMovie then upload and let Youtube convert.

If MPEG Streamclip can't play the whole thing, then it's likely that either something is wrong with the file, or MPEG Streamclip doesn't know how to properly read the type of media it is stored on. I have experienced both problems.

If you plan for long term and professionally good investment, try considering one of the best MPeg Streaming Commercial Software Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0.

AviDemux is a free tool and works with M-JPEG files nicely.

For some strange reason there seems to be errors on the index of the clip. I used iMovie and I am able to open and edit it as necessary, but I can't convert. I guess I will edit my clips then allow Youtube to convert on upload. I would have prefered using MPEG Streamclip, but the files coming off my camera don't show the whole clip. Thanks for the help.
