I here that people on this forum are the best at helping solve problems so here goes.
I am working with Poser Pro 2010, 64 bit version. I need to import an avi as a background. I capture footage using Premeire Pro CS4 (WHich is a 32 bit software) via firewire using the DV footage setting. Everything I have can play that AVI except that when I try to import it into Poser Pro 2010, I get a message stating: Not a valid AVI or unsupported codec. (it does this with both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Poser Pro 2010). The software provider cannot provide any guidence without knowing what AVI codec was used. How can I determine what codec is being used on my AVI files? How can I make a raw AVI file with no codec (is that even possible).

Here's a real WTF moment. Yesterday I was able to import one of the AVI's into the 32 bit version and it worked. SOmeone suggested that I need 64 bit codecs and suggested I install Klite 64 bit version. I did and now neither of version will work.

Any help with this would be really appreciated.

Never install codec packs. If you install everything that is included in the codec pack it often cause problems.

You could try reconvert to avi uncompressed or avi xvid/divx with for example avidemux or virtualdub.

Ok, so if I did install a codec pack, should I just uninstall it and everything will be fine? If not, is there any way to reset the codecs that came with Vista Business 64 bit back to normal? In the mean time I'll check out the info you sent me .... Thnx

dv over firewire from a cam is recorded as DVavi. really common and easy to edit. no external or additional codecs needed as it's included in all current versions of windows.

I just figured out Adobe encodes using a Sony codec. Unfortunately Poser Pro 2010 can't read it. I was able to finally figure out an encoding scheme that will work. Thanks for all the help here.
