  1. OK, I've tried to IVTC an MPEG2 video file SEVERAL times, but each and every time it fails at 11% and the program locks up.

I'm using the "latest" TMPGEnc Plus v2.53

Should I be using a different version? This is really frustrating me.
    Any help appreciated!

    Hmm...

I'll only offer you the notion that if you are going to ultimately be encoding to MPEG-2 again (like for an SVCD)... you don't need to do IVTC at all, just leave it as Interlaced and encode it that way...

And for VCD (MPEG-1) it doesn't matter because the lack of vertical size blends the fields together anyway, making the interlace lines disappear...

Now, if you're doing this for other reasons (like conserving frames to only have to encode 24 fps instead of 29.97), then maybe try an earlier TMPGEnc...

Unfortunately, though, this looks like it might have something to do with the source video (always stops at the same time), it could be corrupted somehow. If it's an MPEG-2 capture, I've had this happen more times than I can count...

  3. Actually, yes, it was an Mpeg2 source. I'll have to try and find another version. I can't use the video the way it is right now, as It's the laserdisk video from the classic Dragon's Lair Arcade game, and it needs to be appx. 24fps Mpeg2.

    Thanks,

  4. I don't know what's happening at 11%. I use an older version of TMPGEnc (2.01), and I've had consistently good results using the automatic IVTC filter.

But I want to recommend doing IVTC whenever possible, especially if you convert to lower vertical resolution. If you convert or capture the 30 fps telecined video directly to 240 lines, you will either get ghosting (if you blend the fields) or loss of smooth motion (if you ignore one of the two fields). Either way you end up with substantially lower quality video not counting the fact that you're wasting your bitrate on frames that don't do anything.

  5. Well, I got it to work.

Initially, I had already edited the footage and saved it as an Mpeg2 file.
Well, for some reason TMPGEnc would freeze during the IVTC with the Mpeg2's.

I tried re-doing it again, instead using the original AVI captured files and then converting them to Mpeg2 at the same time I was IVTCing and wa-la, it worked!

Now all I have to do is de-multiplex the audio and convert it to Ogg Vobis format and Ta-DA: Dragon's Lair Arcade!!

Also, anyone know how much it costs to register TMPGEnc?

    Thanks!
