right so i just want some advice really

i have a dvd recorder with a firewire port and there is one on my laptop as well

i have been thinking about connecting the Laptop to the TV for a while and forgot about the port on the DVD player i was going to use a VGA (if that works)

will i be able to use the firewire and browse the internet??

i would just try it but i am moving house so TV is off the wall and electrics packed.

it would be nice to just set the TV up once as i hate chasing wires and stuff so im doing it once lol

also i have a usb on my satellite decoder could i use this instead id rather not as the USB port is at the front and would look unsightly

any help would be appreciated although i know very little so please remember in your replies you are talking to a moron

The firewire port in most DVD recorders works only when a camera is connected, and cannot be used to transfer any other data. In a small number of cases you can use it to transfer footage off the DVD recorder to a PC. Your manual will tell you which is which. In the case of the former (and most common), they will not recognise a computer when it is plugged in, as it doesn't behave exactly like a camera. You might be able to use DV software (like Enosoft or WinDV) to make your PC respond like a camera, but only when transferring DV footage to the recorder.

In short, you cannot use this to connect your PC to your TV.

If your PC has a VGA port (many LCD/Plasma TVs do) then this would be your best option.
