    Hello there

I was trying to make a video from my webcam. Although the cam has it's own app (amcap), I used another software (CamStudio) to capture the screen.

Ok, full video is 48:54 minutes long, but I can't watch anything after like 30 mins. I tried virtualDub but no luck. Every frame before 30 mins is ok, but what the hell must have happened to the rest of the file? What made it go wrong? Any chance to fix it?

Besides, what software would you people recommend to record video from my webcam? I need to record long videos and can't check if it's ok in the process. So damn frustrating when you finish recording, go check it and there are missing parts.

    Thank you in advance.

Depending on the output you need, Microsoft Media Encoder or the free edition of Expression Video Encoder can do a good job. Limited to WMV output only, the but quality will be as good as your webcam can supply if the settings are correct. There is also a free app called Debut which does a pretty good job.

Thanks guns I'll check those. Can they record directly from the webcam, or will I still have to use amcap to load it on the screen and then capture the screen actions?

I was thinking you might have a FAT32 4GB file size limitation. But no.

As I look into my crystal ball........ I don't really have a crystal ball, but you seem to think we do!
Please provide more information, why can't you watch it? Is it not there? Is it corrupt? and any other information you can provide!

    lol well, sorry

k, windows media player does open it with no error message, but as I said, the video freezes after like 30 mins (it's 48m54s long). So, everything plays fine until that part, then the "player bar" goes back to the beginning of the video.

If I open it with virtualdub, it's like the video had only those 30 mins. It doesn't even tell that there is a missing part... I was thinking it could be something with windows power saving settings, guessing it could have turned off my webcam during the recording or something like that in 30 mins of no mouse moviment, but I've looked at the settings and it's not that.

Please tell me what other info I should provide and I'll do.

    Thanks everyone.

  8. You can try GSpot and see what it has to say about the video. Enable Full File Scan mode. Does the number of frames match the long or short running time?

In WMP, can you seek past the 30 minute mark? Have you tried other players like VLC, MPCHC? Any difference?

OK, I downloaded GSpot. It says length is 32:14... exactly when WMP stops playing it. I'm not sure what you mean by seek, but WMP does say the real video length, which is 48:54, but will freeze and go back to the beginning at any frame after 32:14.

    GSpot also says:

    Video: 70.3 MB
    AVI Overhead: 50.2 MB

Also downloaded VLC and it says index is damaged. Repairs it and shows only 32:14 mins.

Does that mean I definitely lost 16 mins of video for whatever reason?
