splitting 2 hour mpg into 2.... audio sync prob

I recorded something using my ATI TV Wonder. It's 2 hours long and I'd like to put it on 2 VCD's. From the TV Wonder software it's a compliant vcd mpg. Using TMPeng, I split the file using the instructions from this page. The problem is the audio is off sync now. It's fine in the big file, but messed up in the 2 smaller ones. THe first file is 1.53 seconds off, and the second is 2.7 seconds off. I followed the other instructions from this site on syncing audio, but it didn't work when I joined them back together. Where am I going wrong. Sorry to be a complete noob.

Is there a way that I can save a VCD MPG file from Priemier? My cousin has it from a student license and said she'd do it if I could find the codec. Would converting to avi and back to in tmp be much of a loss of quality? Please help me! I'm tired of this. Thanks!

I've had similar problems with audio sync after chopping up mpgs captured with an ATI AIW Radeon card (MMC 7.1). Not so severe as yours though, but still infuriating.

Sometimes I get problems, and sometimes not. The sync is often OK on the computer but off on the DVD player (or vice-versa). I've got no idea what is happening!!!

What does seem to make a difference is setting the MPEG-1 type in TMPGenc's MPEG tools - i.e. to automatic, VCD (standard) or VCD (non-standard). If you still have the original file, you could try re-cutting with each of those settings in turn and you might find one that works.

I always demultiplex and remultiplex first to get the file into the MPEG-1 format I want before cutting - otherwise TMPGEnc cuts in the wrong place. But that particular problem seems unique to my setup, so you probably needn't worry about that...

Remember - even if the sync is a bit off on the computer, it might be OK when you burn your VCD - so get hold of some CDRWs (10-speed, 80 min if poss!) and give it a try. It's worth the effort because you'll know what to do next time...

By the way - don't bother re-encoding - I've tried that angle and the results are crap.

Could be your dropping frames, if your Mpeg has some bad frames it can mess up in TMPGEnc.

If it was an AVI, It could be fixed first before encoding with TMPGEnc, then the output is always good and never gives any lip sync if cut in half.

Since you already have the mpeg, you don't want to convert to AVI and back. You could split the mpeg, then load each half back into TMPGEnc and adjust the settings >audio > settings > -xxx to delay xxx to increase. But if the mpeg has bad frames it would probable error at some point.

Try a scan for bad frames in Vdub, at leased you can see if there is an error.

If you try to burn the mpeg and give a 0-80 range, the burner softwear would probably make a bigger mess than any other methods

Sound like it may be a codec problem...?? But what is wierd is I am having similar frustrations, only I have properly encoded my avi to vcd compliant mpeg. It works fine when played back on my computer but when I burn it to VCD the audio is out of sync and the video skips forward in some spots!!?? Any suggestions on this one?? I will try different burning speeds because I am using Nero and heard of such problems when trying to burn at faster speeds.
