  1. I installed Norton AntiVirus 2010 and then uninstalled it. I even tried downloading the Norton removal tool but it doesn't work. Every single time my computer starts up, I get a message "Norton AntiVirus has encountered an error" Do you want to tell Microsoft about it.

It is not even on my computer but the stupid message pops up. Any ideas if the NRT doesnt work?

You may have to reinstall it temporarily, then boot in safe mode to uninstall if all else fails. A anti-malware program doesn't like to be uninstalled, probably thinks it's an attack. Safe mode should keep the drivers from installing and may work a bit better.

But the Norton Removal tool should have been able to clean it up. It must not have uninstalled completely. Those type of programs run 'behind the scenes', so are not easy to remove.

Make sure you are using the correct removal tool and you might want to take a look at the Norton forum for exact instructions.

I use Your Uninstaller set to average and delete folders from program files, Documents and Settings, Common files. Use unlocker to unlock some tough files, and finish with a manual clean of the registry, scanning for Symantec and Norton. HTH.

Norton Removal tool is just another Norton peace of crap.
