  1. Hi all, total video converting noob here but I've read through some of the old threads on this forum that pointed me towards MKVExtractGUI and AVIMuxGUI for most of my purposes. For this particular video, all I'm trying to do is convert from .mkv to .avi with the highest video and audio quality intact. I simply loaded the .mkv and generated the data source from the files and left everything checked, but upon clicking start I only have the option to save the file as .mkv. Is this because the codec that is embedded in the video and audio file of the .mkv is not supported in .avi? If so, then I guess I will have to convert the video and audio streams into something that AVIMuxGUI will mux into an .avi. This is where I'm sort of lost. I have no idea which .avi codecs support the best possible audio and video and which program to use for the conversion. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Why do you need to convert? If your player just support avi you must usually reconvert to avi xvid/divx anyway. Use for example mkv2avi, xmedia recode, etc.

  3. My Xbox360 does not support .mkv, so I'm looking to convert .mkv to .avi with as little quality loss as possible. Does mkv2avi achieve this or is the quality loss pretty visible?

I don't know what types of AVI the Xbox 360 supports, but I bet it supports WMV,
so this latter should be your safest choice I guess. Anyway, that "VBR DTS" stream
shown in the Avi-Mux GUI screen shot must be in fact DTS-HD Monster Audio, so no way to
place it into an AVI file ( yet ).

    HTH.
