  1. i usually use fairuse wizzard (2.9le and not the newer version since 2.10 is buggy) free version to back up my dvd collection with the x264 codec and the results are great, but when a movie is really long the maximum 700meg cap that FUWle has is a problem.
i installed autogk and really like the layout and options of that program however i am not able to get matching results that i get with FUW. a 2 hour long 700meg encoded with FUW movie looks better that the same movie done with autogk @800megs.

am i missing something with the settings (i tried many configurations in the hidden settings) or is it simply an inferior codec?

Try RipBot264 https://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipBot264 way better than (Old) fairuse wizard. Just a suggestion.

XviD doesn't compress nearly as well as does x264, if that's what you're asking. If you'd like advice on how to get the best out of AutoGK, then post a log file for one of the results that dissatisfied you.

i erased all the data that autogk made, or are you refering to gspot info?

the main difference im noticing between the two encodings is that the xvid looks more pixelated and more obvious compression artefacts (blurry sections around straight lines) while the x264 has maybe a overall slightly out of focus look but generally far superior quality

I use AutoGK to rip DVDs to XviD and have fantastic results but I do not limit myself to 700MB because thats just silly. Blank DVDs are dirt cheap these days. I set AutoGk to 80%, and I usually end up with a 1.25GB (ish) file that looks fantastic. I can burn 3 of those XviDs onto 1 DVD.

I am still using v2.9 and never have or had problems with it and i can not see them removing this option for a newer version....

See where it say's "BATCH PROCESSING" ?
Ya can't miss it, it's right there, a big window on the main screen.....

any chance you can post a screenshot of your hidden settings?

is it possible to choose x264 as the encoder in autogk?

You don't need one, and they're not hidden but clear as day on the main screen. Rather than using the default 2-pass for a predefined or custom size, just tick 'Target quality (in percentage)', choose the percentage and take it from there. marioval uses 80% although the default 75% is good. If you want a width other than the default 720, go into the Advanced Settings and change it to 640 or whatever.

No, AutoGK creates only XviD or DivX AVIs.

    I meant the AutoGK log.
