  1. I would love to be able to edit recordings made via the EyeTV siftware and HD PVR via SimpleMovieX, however, it does not allow the movie in. It is recorded with file extension mpg, inside is of course H264 and ac3.

Quicktime of course also cannot read those file, it says it is not a movie file.

But I am not sure why. The codecs don't seem unique, I do have Perian.

VLC reports h264 for the codec, and, a52 for the audio.

I'd like to hear from anyone using this combination of products how they can edit these files.

Have you tried renaming the suffix?
    E.g. .mp4, .mkv, .ts, .mov

  3. Of course, but that's why I am looking for someone who is doing this. Not sure what else to rename it to. Tried 5 or 6 different ones including the ones you suggested.

Don't know if this is still supported: Right-click and "show contents".

  5. Show contents of what? Right clicking the mpg file (which I already got out of the EyeTV container as mentioned) of course has no show contents options since it's not a folder.

Hope someone is using both products.

  6. EyeTV records mpeg-ts files, and your file seems an HD file: h264+AC3 (Some television channels are broadcast at this format in France)

Eyetv handles it correctly for cuts, but only if you don't remove its wrapper (the "xxx.eyetv" wrapper)
MPegStreamClip does handle the ts wrapper, but it uses QuickTime to read contents (and h264 for broadcasting is incompatible with all quicktime based products)

The only soft that could handles it -a little in your case- yet, is VLC.

My advice, edit your movie in EyeTV, for example I made a recording (3 hours), and removed the .mpg inside.
When I record this sort of file (not with Eyetv), I duplicate my empty eyetv file, fill it with my new recording, and double-click on the eyetvfile. Now I can access to the cut feature of eyetv (I cannot play the stream with the "play" button, but I can trim with accuracy with the thumbnails in the editing mode)

    bye
    For DVD, iPad, HD, connected TV, … iMovie & FCPX? MovieConverter-Studio 3 (01/24/2015) - Handle your camcorder's videos? even in 60p or 60i? do a slow-motion? MovieCam.

  7. Of course one can do that, but I want to use SimpleMovieX, not the EyeTV editor which has problems in some cases. The recording came DIRECTLY from the Hauppauge DVR, US, not France. That's the way EyeTv records it. The recording originated from a Dish DVR.

So, forget the whys, I want to use SimpleMovieX, for many many good reasons.

You didn't mention it then but you did now.

  9. It was "hidden" in this text in my original post:

It is recorded with file extension mpg

If you check the EyeTV contents, the recording itself is .mpg, that's what I cannot bring into SimpleMovieX. Plays fine in VLC, but, VLC is not an editor or anything else.

    SimpleMovie is based on Quicktime

and you don't have access to them with QuickTime codes.

so your wrapper and -certainly- your content is incompatible with quicktime based products (like SimpleMovie too)

  11. Not totally, which is why I was hoping someone used all the products I mentioned. I can demux the m2ts into H264 and ac3, I can use Quicktime to combine the two, and, output a mov with the original h264 and ac3 and no loss in quality. So, not totally incompatible.

I was looking for some good tricks. apparently, the answer is no, no one here is doing that.

There are messages on other boards about people using the products together, but, no details. Might have to ask there.
