hi
I never had subtitle problems in my local language until Avatar, every single .srt file causes squares (1-2) in each line, I tried many subtitles, all the same results.
I have another new film, I got subtitle for it from same website and it worked from first time with no subtitle problems.
I tried changing the encoding in subtitleEdit to all the available one and nothing fixed the problem.
why is this happening to avatar alone ?
How can I know the exact encoding used in some subtitle?
Thanks

It sounds like the .srt may be unicode. Try opening the .srt in Notepad, then do Save As and choose Ansi encoding. If that doesn't work try the others like UTF8 and see if any look clean.
