  1. Does anyone here have ADS Instant DVD? I purchased it and it comes with Ulead Video Studio 5.0 and My DVD, but I haven't been successful in actually making a DVD.

I captured almost 2 hours of image from my camcorder, but Ulead freezes up once I try to either view the film or edit it... Does anyone know what could be causing me problems and how can I fix them?

    I appreciate your help!

I have been using the trial version and I like it...

I use XP Pro and have had to go into device manager and uninstall my 1394 device (firewire card) and let XP install it again.

What operating system are you using?

  3. I'm also using XP. I just got my computer about a week ago, so everything already came installed. I've tried every possible way to make things worked, but so far it has been unsuccessful (and I'm extremely frustrated... :(

If you have any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them (and I appreciate your help!)

    Thx!

I'm considering buying one of these myself as the Dazzle DV Bridge is expensive here and seems to have little in the way of support after sale (at least officially from Dazzle).

    Hope that URL helps you...

  5. The URL is very good, but my questions are already there (same username and everything!) and they've been very helpful but my problem still hasn't been solved... I'm quite frustrated by now!

Before you buy the Dazzle, I would recommend you go to Amazon.com and read the reviews from actual users which can be very helpful. I almost bought it, but now I'm glad I didn't, because apparently it doesn't convert files to MPEG-2 only MPEG-1, which is for VCD not DVD... Anyway, the reviews are from people who love it and people who hate it, but since they are actual customers you get something more truthful than otherwise.

Do you know of any program that would edit video? The file I was finally able to capture turns out to be almost 4 GB, and there are also a lot of scenes of the film (it's a family tape, so not every screen is perfect) that I would like to edit out. Apparently, from what I've seen, this can be done if you have a digital camera, but if you capture from an analog camcorder, it becomes one big file, and I haven't figure out how to edit (if such thing is possible, but I certainly hope so!)

    Thanks!

Well, I read through your posts at ADS... What are you using for the analog capture (did I miss it somewhere? If so, I am sorry!) If it is an ATI card, you may want to peek at their tech support too. Maybe the programs mentioned are conflicting with it in some way.
To capture and edit from my DV camera to the PC, I use Adobe Premiere. It is expensive, but one of the best around. I think you can download a trial at their site. However, to change the captured AVI file to MPG2 for DVD was a royal pain. There is a program listed on this site that acts as a plugin to Premiere that allows it to export to MPG2 and has the best quality so far. I will have to research the name of the plugin and get back to you on that.
I am not a Mac affectionado, but one can see why video editing is so much easier on them! (I used to have one).
Anyway, let me know if you need me to send you the trial on CD as I can get it at high speed (download).
Lastly, you could try reloading XP... Could be a pain, but it also alleviates extras that the manufacturer puts on your system...

Ok... The Plug-In for Adobe Premiere and the link for the HOW TO is here...
    http://www.videotools.net/uk/guide_premiere_tmpgenc.php
This is called Video Serving and uses TMPGENC with Premiere. Don't be affraid to jump right in; just follow all directions and it works very well.

  8. The Dazzle is for capture analog to DV (not mpeg-1 or mpeg-2). After capture, you can software compress to mpeg-1 or mpeg-2.
The ADS captures directly to mpeg-1 or mpeg-2. The drawback is that editing is very difficult of mpeg files, but very easy of DV files. However, it takes a long time to convert DV files to mpeg. So, you have to way the positives and the negatives.
As for the ADS, it lacks good software. Ulead is terrible, and the capture software is amateurish and ugly. The hardware seems to be OK, but they really need to work on the software. This is the same problem you will find with the PV256, also a Streammachine product. Hardware is good, but the software sucks.

  9. I am capturing from my analog camcorder, and later I plan to capture older VHS tapes from my VCR.

Today, my DVD seemed to work, I left it recording it, but have to see how it looks when I get back home (I'm almost there!) Adobe Premiere is not an option for me, since it's too expensive (and I just blew all my money buying this new computer, the ADS instant DVD, a new printer), right now only freebies for me! I just have to figure out how do they work! I'm a little disappointed is with the file size using MPEG2. One hour and forty minutes of movie became over 5 GB (!!!), so I had to cut it in half, which is a little disappointing considering the camcorder tape has 120 minutes on it...

    Thanks for all your help!
