  1. A friend of mine is working on a website for his parent's shop. However the website is roughly more of an advertisement in the realm of "if you come to the area be sure to visit, here are some things we carry"

He asked me if I knew of any reputable and more importantly free webhosters. Since that is not my subject at all I figure I would ask here.

Can anyone recommend a good one?

  2. You usually don't want to use a free webhoster , especially for a retail site. They are "free" because they use ads, and you don't want someone else's advertisements sprawled over that retail site

Free hosting sites also have a bad habit of suddenly disappearing and taking your site down with them. If you do plan to use one, keep your site backed up so you can move it to somewhere else if needed.

I would recommend a lower cost paid site instead. You can do a internet search for ' cheap web hosting ' and get quite a few hits. Or one of our members may be able to suggest a cheap host site that they are using.

If it's a simple site, without e-commerce, you can just put it up in the webspace you get free from your ISP.
(Almost always you get at least a few MB you can use.)

You can create a free redirector from a site like http://www.dyndns.com/
You can change that to another URL if necessary; or even host it on your home PC if it's online all the time.

Of course this isn't what you would do for a full on commercial site, but as a few pages that describe the shop and will enable Google to index you, it will do the job.
