  1. Good Day,

When I go to capture mode, I see my video. The video menu has Overlay ticked. The Preview acceleration is set to "Progressive even fields only" but when I start capturing I lose the video, only the audio is hearable. Pressing the Preview during capture has no effect. Is there a way to see the video while it's being captured?

    Thanks in advance.

Which device did you choose in the "Device" Menu ? I set "no acceleration" and "Overlay" by default too.
If it does not work try "MS WDM Image Capture (Win32) (VFW)".

  3. Thanks,

In the Devise menu it is set on USB2.0 TV BOX direct show, which is my capture card, any other choice and no video comes at all.
By default I also have acceleration set to off, but still no video !

Try to install ffdshow directshow filter (if you did not have it already installed). In the ffdshow video decoder settings, check in the codec section if the box "uncompressed video" is ticked and set it to "all supported formats".

  5. Thanks titgrom, that solved it, I installed the latest ffdshow from the link you provided, and although I did not find that setting as ffdshow had so much settings, but I guess just installing it was enough to fix the problem, so now my final question is during live capture, I should have the Overlay ticked right?

And now that I can see the video, it will not slow down the capture in any way and cause it to drop frames or anything, if it's safer to have no display during capture then be it.

    Thanks again.

Happy you got your problem solved ! I think it depends on your material. You can try any of the settings. "Overlay" mode works fine to me. There are lots of settings in VirtualDub "Capture" Menu too. Check "Timing" for dropped frames, Audio-Video Synchronization...
