I can convert movies to 100% compliant NTSC SVCD's (verified with Phillip's svcd verifier version 2.0) using Ligos 3.5 and wav2mp... but now the trick is to do the same with TMPGENC 2.5x plus...
I have found the .m2v video streams of TMPGENC 2.53 to be very close to compliant if you use the right settings but still there are some issues.
I would like to ask ALL REGISTERED USERS of TMPGENC plus to email techsupport and request that the following bugs be fixed (I bought TMPGENC and have already emailed them this letter):
Dear Tmpgenc
I encode .avi with Tmpgenc Plus v2.53 to make NTSC SVCD .m2v file.
I check .m2v file with Philip's SVCD verifier program version 2.0
and it says there are 3 ERRORS with the .m2v file.
PLEASE FIX/CORRECT THESE ERRORS:
ERROR 1:
[SVCD] ODDITY 4324 (ref. N/A) :
Sequence_display_extension : colour_primaries value is 5
which is different from the default values 4 or 6
for video sequence (0) at byte 91 bit 0;
PES ($E0) byte 113 (byte 113 of packet 0);
byte 127 of pack 1 (PS stream byte 2451).
EXPLAIN ERROR 1:
Tmpgenc writes value "5" but 5 is not correct for NTSC colour_primaries value
It must be 4 or 6 for NTSC please fix this in TMPGENC 2.54 plus.
==For more info see SVCD Verifier manual.pdf page 110.

ERROR 3:

It should be 540 or 720.
for video sequence (0) at byte 94 bit 0;
PES ($E0) byte 116 (byte 116 of packet 0);
byte 130 of pack 1 (PS stream byte 2454).
EXPLAIN ERROR 3:

It must be 540 for NTSC please fix this in TMPGENC 2.54 plus.

--- end letter ---
If we work together we can make TMPGENC NTSC SVCD compliant
Thanks,
PS HAS anyone informed the toolame developers that their .mp2 streams are not fully svcd compliant? We should fix this as toolame seems to give even better quality than wav2mp Any thoughts about this???

You are mostly correct, but the real question is "Will it play in my future dvd players?" The best way to answer that question with a "yes" is to make 100% compliant files...
