I am a complete newbie at this stuff, so please forgive my basic question.
I used DVD Decrypter to copy my Sporanos box set onto a USB hard drive (Just the VOB format, I was not trying to shrink, convert etc)
With Windows XP, nothing would play them back properly (WMP, GOM, DIVX etc ) the picture was very pixelated and jumpy and didnt get the menus. Eventually I found VLC player, this works great and it must have come with some codecs or something becasue WMP, GOM etc all play them fine now.
Now I have tried to play them back on my PS3. It plays them the same as WMP, GOM, DIVX did.. pixels, fast etc
My question, why did I need VLC to get things working, if WMP etc play DVDs why couldnt they play the VOBs without me installing VLC.
How do I get the VOBs to play from my PS3 hard drive (I guess I could convert to AVI, but for 200 GB/60 hours of film, thats a lot of work; playing the VOBs would be a nice lazy option if there is way.
Thanks in advance.

You can't stream? If you can use PS3 Media server to stream the dvd vobs.
And what vob file are you playing? You should only play the main movie VTS_0X_0.VOB (the first 1GB).
And rip also with dvdfab decrypter, dvddecrypter hasn't been updated for several years and does not work properly for newer dvds.
