  1. Ripped in vob, and mkv. Both look grainy. Usuing wd live media player. Shouldn't picture look crisp? Thank you, marccc

  2. If it's an SD source (VOB from DVD) , it will never look crisp on an HDTV

    720x480 vs. 1920x1080

  4. If it's a retail DVD (i.e. VOB), that's standard definition

    You might be able to reduce the "graininess" a bit by using a higher bitrate, or even playing back the original (without compressing it farther) but it will never look crisp on a HDTV. You need an HD source.

  5. Your "rips" played with the WDTV Live should look about the same as playing the original DVD on a DVD player. Unless you recompressed with too low a bitrate and/or a smaller frame size.
