    HI,

Looking at buying a new capture card. I used to use an asus3800 TNT2 card that had the capture built in, but recently bought a geforce2 card and need a cap card to run alongside it

    My PC Specs are

    AMD XP 1700+
    256M Ram
    40G HDD
    Win ME

Now the choices I have in my price range are low - end cards.. I'm stuck between these:

-generic 878 chipset cards (TV excel, MTV878)
    -Flyvideo 3000

Whats gonna be my best bet? Anyone relate any experiences with these cards?

At the moment I'm leaning towards the flyvideo.. however what I really wanna know is if I can use virtualdub with it, or just its bundled software (it uses a philips chipset I know nothing about).. anyone had any experince doing caps with it? Or would I be better off just sticking with the generic 878 cards?

I am considering upgrading to XP in the next 3 months, so thats a consideration too

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks - great (and VERY informative) site :P

  2. Do not get the FlyVideo! as a technician i've had the displeasure of working with that card, and getting intouch with clients who bought the card, and i've yet to see one that is happy with it.

Get a bt878 based card, i'd recommand something along the lines of PCTV PCI or Hauppauge WinTV-Theater (or WinTV-Dbx for simpler card, not the WinTV-Go, it's crap!).
