i want my 4.7 GB dvd video (2hr 45 min) in xvid. i saw the video tutorial from youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S828QAlvRw) using autoGK and i did the same thing. but the output is not in good quality, it is very blur but the source video is very good quality. i did it twice with 700MB and 1.36 GB. both resulted in same blur output. comparing to other rip movies the output quality is not fair. Help me in this.
Thanks

If your dvd source is 2:45 and on a 4.7gb dvd video it can't be the best dvd quality. Is this a commercial dvd or homemade?

90 minutes in a 700MB AVI is barely passable. Unless you make the resolution 320 x nnn, 2 hours 45 minutes in 700 MB is never going to look any good. You are simply trying to squeeze too much data into too small a space. Even 1.36 GB is not enough.

And if it's an Indian DVD there's a good chance it's fieldblended, which may account for it looking blurry. All-In-One programs such as AutoGK can't deal with that properly. To be sure though, we'll need a small 10 second sample, one showing steady movement, cut from the DVD and uploaded somewhere so we can have a look.

Here is the 9 sec video of the original file. http://www.4shared.com/file/pM0ngmc9/VTS_03_1_clip0.html

Thanks for the sample. It isn't as I thought. I'd need a log to be sure, but you checked one box wrong in the Hidden Options (one reason it's hidden - so people can't mess things up), and this wrong checked box might account for your blurry output since you're forcing 29.97fps and a deinterlace on something that should be IVTC'd back to 23.976fps. I'd really like to see a log file for that movie, to see how AutoGK treats it, but for this movie you shouldn't have checked 'Force Deinterlacing When Source Was Detected As A Hybrid'. You should have checked 'Force Normal IVTC When Source Was Detected As A Hybrid'.

Hoo.. the log file is missing. i will repeat the process again and post the log. moreover i will change the correction you have mentioned. is target size 1.36 GB is enough ? please suggest me if any other changes to be make. (because the process is taking almost 3 -4 hrs)

There's no way to know if 1.36GB is enough, but I know of a way to cut down the encoding time considerably. Instead of going for a particular file size and running 2 passes, instead use single-pass encoding for a Target Quality percentage at the default 75%. That way you'll get your defined quality (use 70% or maybe 65% at the least, for smaller sizes if you like). Maybe set a fixed width of 640 in the Advanced Settings if you want to wind up with something like 640x272. But it won't be split afterwards, Either burn it to a blank DVD (maybe along with a couple of other AVI movies), or split it yourself.

i have initiated the process. once completed i will post the log and the output quality. i need 2 more suggestions.
1. i have some movies in mp4 format. how to convert it to divx / xvid without loosing quality so that i can view in dvd player (connecting to TV).
2. an avi file plays correctly in VLC but if i play it in my dvd player the video and audio are not syncing. there is a delay for 5-10 secs for audio. how to correct it. -
What was the result? Was it still blurry, or does it look good now? Was it roughly the same size as before (1.36GB) or is it much larger? If the size is too large, maybe you should have taken my advice to set a 640 width in the Advanced Settings. Otherwise the only way to improve the quality is to increase the percentage, but that will also increase the file size.
As for XviD4PSP, there are a bunch of guides on that page. Just click on the link and then scroll down. -
The output file is still blurry and file size is 1.75 GB. i was suggested by someone previously as 720 width will be good to watch in TV. so i didn't changed it, is that suggestion right? is there any other option or any other tool so that i can get good output.
i will look in to XviD4PSP deeply. Thanks for that once again. -
Have you ever made AVIs before? A standard XviD just won't look as good as the DVD source. Why not make a reencoded DVD from it? If you'd like someone to have a look at the output, cut a piece and upload it for us.The AutoGK log looks OK and there's no reason it should be blurry, unless you're not familiar with the way XviD AVIs usually look when compared to a good DVD source.

This is first time i am converting to AVI moreover am not familiar with video types and properties. i came across many movies with 700 MB (like axxo) which quality is good with lesser file size. so i planned to convert my 4.7 GB video to avi so that i can save disk space.
i will upload the sample output by tomorrow (today am away). -
Yeah, but those groups don't encode to a 720 width, but use 640 or sometimes less, and they don't work with 2.75 hour long very colorful and complex (meaning dancing and lots of action) Indian movies. And they don't use AutoGK. It's a fine program for beginners, but doing it manually with the full range of AviSynth filters can result in better quality. If you're going to compare, make it apples to apples.
