How to calculate OAR (Original Aspect Ratio) ?
Hi,
I have 2 Versions of the same Movie.
The AR of the DVD ist 1.30 and the AR of the HDTV Airing is 1.78.
The 1.30 frame is cropped left/right |Resolution after cropping black bars 625:480
The 1.78 frame is cropped top/botton |Resolution after cropping black bars 1912x1074
(it's possible that the 1.78 is also cropped left/right. No idea)
How can i find out the Original Aspect Ratio of a Movie?
Thanks a lot!!
Here is a picture of both frames (i know it's not 100% the same frame...but close ^^)

no way to tell for sure without the name of the movie, but it's possible the were both pan&scanned from a 2.35/1 source.

With some movies both the widescreen theatrical and TV (4:3) versions are pan-and-scans of the full film frame. Rabbit-Proof Fence is one example. Finding Nemo was rendered in both 16:9 and 4:3.

Thx for your help guys !
The title of the Movie is "Subspecies".
It's a cheap Horrorflick filmed in Romania (1991)
I checked imdb for oar...nothin there. -
Go to the imdb database for original aspect ratio. They also often list the VHS/Laserdisc/DVD release aspect ratios. Wiki is also good.
For example

Lots of info here. Still looking for aspect ratio.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103002/
One option is to research the director and studio and see what they used for other films in the same year.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
