I have a strange question. Most of the time you hear people asking how do I remove region codes. Well I am asking the opposite.

I have a bunch of discs I backed up and removed the region codes from. Well I have a new DVD player that will not play region free discs.

What I want to know is what tool should I use to put the Region 1 codes back on the disc. I realize this will most likely mean burning a copy of my backup but I don't mind.

If someone would be so kind as to recommend a tool and tell me how to use it I would greatly appreciate it.

Run it through DVDShrink. There is an option in there to add a region code.

    Can this really be true?
It suggests that the player cannot play home movies self-authored to DVD.

  5. Yeah, I find it fishy also. Maybe it doesn't play all-region DVDs.

And despite having been a member here for over 6 years and having made over 260 posts you think that it was a great idea to not tell us the model of your player because...????

If you had listed the model, perhaps others with experience with this model could have provided some insight into your problem. If nothing else, it might serve as a warning to others NOT to buy that model themselves. If you are actually correct about this problem, it would be really good to know what you bought as that's something I've not heard of yet and it might be good to know if Hollywood is going to force manufacturers into that direction. As others have pointed out, that would make it impossible to play home movie DVDs on such a player. If you are correct and that is the problem, you might as well throw that player in the trash.

You have a choice between providing info that might be helpful to others or remaining silent and being a jerk. It's your call.

There are plenty of older Sony machines out there that were made pretty "bullet proof" and are still running.....however they did not play recordable media very well and they DID require a region code matching the player's code. My ex girlfriend has one....it was one of the first DTS or Surround Sound jobs....terribly overpriced but not an ES model.

Out with it, Tidy -- give us the brand and model of this new DVD player that will not play all-region discs. My company distributes DVDs all over the world, and we certainly never wanted to replicate separate discs for separate regions. Same goes for countless other non-theatrical DVD producers and distributors. If what you say is true, then there's gonna be hell to pay for that DVD player manufacturer.

Yeah sorry I said region free and meant all region DVD's.

Jman98, As for model it is not important. I don't want to hear a bunch of crap about my dvd player, I don't want to hear about other problems it could be I am 100% sure of what the problem is and wanted a simple answer.

I am not trying to be rude, thank you for answering to everyone else.

Just to prove I am sure, I made a backup of my Psycho III dvd and kept the region code intact. It played fine. I then made another backup and set it to all region and it does not play due to "playback area limitations".

Sony DVP-SR200P in case you were really that curious. I am pretty sure that is the model anyway LOL too lazy to go look.

Well I tried DVDShrink and it did not change the region code even though I chose region 1 only. I will try PGCEdit next.
