Hi, i'm new to all this, but i've got a couple questions.
I need to capture speedTV HD coverage. I dont even know where to start. I've been searching but have only found info on people not being able to record from their motorola DVR. I have a motorola DVR but i'm not interested in just copying a file to my comp.
basically, can i record what i'm seeing on the tv simultaneously onto the computer? and with which tuner or capture card would i need to do this? it has to be able to capture 1080.

    thanks in advance!

The best way to do this is to get a hauppauge hd pvr. It is an external usb device. It hooks up to your computer. You can capture component input and fiber optic input. It does high def and widescreen captures to m2ts or mp4. It does do 5.1 if it was broadcast that way.

I'm capturing the Tour of CA bicycle race (VersusHD) unblocked in HD off the Comcast cable box IEEE-1394 port right now. The capture is the direct MPeg M2t stream

SpeedHD may be 5c blocked. Comcast chooses what they pass and what they don't.

Otherwise check out the Hauppauge HD-PVR which caps off analog component.

  4. Be aware that most cable boxes will not output both HDMI and HD component at the same time.
