I have analog SD cable (Really crappy quality) supplied with my subdivision fees. Comes out to about $20 a month. I very rarely watch it. I don't actually have a TV, just computer monitors and a video projector. I do have a OTA HDTV antenna that gets good quality through a HomeRun LAN converter. Our cable system is owned by the subdivision and the only other TV option beside OTA is satellite, but that's not worth it for me.

Digital tv through cable and Hdtv through cable but only 5 hdtv channels.
And thanks johns0! for keeeping the polls alive. -
I was just thinking of bumping my old thread just this morning
I've been using only free OTA digital TV for almost a year now (I cancelled my Direct TV satellite service July 25th 2009). I really haven't missed anything much from dropping satellite. The few shows I watched on satellite that I can't get via free OTA I now watch either via hulu.com or the networks website directly over my htpc.
The one thing I do pay for is the monthly TiVo service fee of 12.95 USD for my TiVo HD. Yes I have an HTPC that could do the same thing but for the simplicity and ease of use the tivo just can't be beat for me and my family. It's nice not paying that $60 to direct Tv anymore!
edit
I forgot to add that I have a netflix account for streaming. I can watch netflix over my tv either via my htpc or my tivo. Again using the tivo for netflix is so flat simple so that is what my family uses.Last edited by freebird73717; 23rd May 2010 at 20:14.

I have SD digital cable with around 75 channels, but since I installed a TV card, I find am watching almost as much OTA TV (on my HD monitor) as cable.
I have SD TVs plus a Panasonic DVD recorder from 2005, and would have gladly stuck with analog cable, but I'm a Comcast subscriber so I needed to either go digital or downscale to basic cable.
It seems like Comcast doesn't care enough to provide an adequate analog signal anymore. The remaining analog channels I have seem noisier than they were prior to the switchover. -

I cut the cable cord over one year ago, I have OTA+DSL+Blu-ray player+Roku.
I have a Netflix subscription for streaming and a Blockbuster subscription for new releases. -
Interesting that over 1/5 of the respondents (all of whom, presumably, are rather technically adept and leading edge folks) have decided to tell the cable and satellite providers to pound sand and we are satisfied with what little is available OTA. Perhaps this is because most of these 20%'ers just don't care about TV? Do we have better things to do or have we found better things to do because the cost, otherwise, for all those channels is absurd? I'm not answering for the others. I live with the local stations and watch very little OTA programming. I do a few movies (Blockbuster or iTunes) but maybe "Lost" is just lost on me.
I've gone over a year without DirecTV (>$60/month??? Forget it!) I'd rather spend my money on decent Internet service and a new Mac or iPad. Maybe the next toy will be some sort of Android tablet. It's nice to be able to do these purchases now that I don't have those ridiculous TV bills! -

Each time Comcast raised rates, I dropped a premium channel. This last time I asked them to drop the last one (HBO). They cut my bill but then offered HBO back for free for 12 monthes.
I wish I had more over the air choice. Due to local hills and mountains, the only ATSC channels available here are 90 and 120 miles distant. I've got a large antenna with preamp but the 120 mile ("2edge") stations come and go with weather conditions.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

TV broadcast here is via a glass fibre network, although the older cable network still exists.
For HDTV you have to pay a bit more.
The glass fibre network also serves Inet (100 Mbit) and telephone.HCenc at: http://hank315.nl -
Sat and internet, DishNetwork sat, I lost count of how many channels sd and hd, Roku player streaming Netflix and Amazon rentals/freebies and others, HTPC, and paying a ton for the premium channels, they need to go, lousy multiple re-runs and lousy new content for the most part.
