  1. i just tried create a 1920 1080 ntsc version of a 30 seconds 1 gig 60fps fraps capture in powerdirector and it outputted a 23mb file of questionable quality.

supposedly 1920 1080 but only 23 meg from 1 gig... what am i doing wrong here..

  2. I don't use powerdirector, but filesize = bitrate x running time . Therefore you must be using a low bitrate, so just set it higher or use another export format.

  3. tried to custom set the output to 1920 1080 , didnt get to change bit rate i dont think, just tried the wmv 9 HD profile and it outputted a 29 mb file that looked slightly better

  4. what am i doing wrong here.. ?

should i encode at a higher fps rate.. not liking the original 1gig 30 second footage anyways.

and how should i be reencoding this without getting such a crappy output..

how would have this video be recorded, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmMmxzfqjlU&feature=related

a screen capture program,? different to fraps... it has been reencoded to 720p for youtube and quality looks like in game..

dont really know where to go from here... can someone point me in the right direction...

  5. I didn't see anything spectacular in that video. I downloaded the 720p version and it was a 1024x720, 15 fps, h.264, mp4 file.

  6. yeah i know, although the material in the video is unbelievably spectacular i know the vid quality wasnt the best..

so what am i doing wrong here... can some of the above questions be addressed..

is fraps the problem, should i encode at a higher fps, then reencode...

and how should i be reencoding to ensure as little quality loss as possible... 1 gig to a 30mb file even for 30 seconds seems rediculous...

  7. Yes, 1GB=>30MB is retarted.

    Use a higher bitrate.

Again, filesize = bitrate x running time . It's the ONLY factor in filesize, assuming you have the same video running time.

  8. You want to capture and encode with a lower frame rate and maybe a lower frame size. First of all, you will get smoother caps. Trying to capture a large frame with a high frame rate is too CPU and I/O intensive. Either the cap, the game rendering, or both, is/are going to suffer. Secondly, the lower frame rate and smaller frame size will require lower bitrates to maintain quality. Further, the video you linked to had virtually nothing going on. A series of still frames can compress down to nearly nothing. If you have a fast action game with crap flying all around the screen, explosions, smoke, fog, strobe lights, etc. you are going to need much much higher bitrates.

  9. my pc is somewhat of a beast. it records fraps 60 fps nps with no frame drops. its not the recording.

although i still think fraps isnt recording it as good as it can be recorded... at 60 fps 1gig for 30 seconds it still seems kind of sht, as opposed to demo playback in game

i tried to do a custom profile avc 264 1920 1080 output with highest bit rate it output for 60mb this time but still looked pretty bad, what is the best way to go about this conversion...
different video editor .. i dunno what to do here

  10. If you want to, post a sample of the fraps capture.

If your encode was 1 minute , for 60MB, that's only 8-9 Mbps bitrate. That's not a lot of bitrate for 1920x1080p60, especially if it is an action game. You either need more bitrate or lower the resolution and the the fps (e.g. select every 2nd frame to make it 30fps)

It's not that difficult, just use a higher bitrate . Even output from shitty encoders looks decent when you throw enough bitrate at it

  11. i set bit rate to constant at 16mb ! and it still outputted a 60mb clip. and its sht

must be the encoder from powerdirector ?

looks all interlaced and sht aswell

  12. ahhh, the fraps file sais its 285 mbps, the 1.3 gig file

tried more and more outputs, the PAL 720 576 outputted it without all the deinterlace sht and it is now smoother but still not that great at 60mb file size from 1.3 gig.

it must be the downsize of bitrate from 285mbps to 17 is killing the quality.. can i downgrade less....

obviously not in powerdirector, i think the wmv was able to keep higher frame rate so can record fraps at 77 and keep wmv of 77 at the resolution the game was played in.
it still seemed kinda crap compared to in game 460 frames. 77 frame wmv was alrite and the 720 576 pal dvd, what are some other ways of encoding it to maximise bitrate, or ways i could record closer to in game, even if i couldnt output to any later media, just to edit the footage and keep on the pc...
