Suppose I want to transfer a laserdisc with 5.1 sound to dvd. Is there a way to capture the 5.1 output?
I suppose I need a special audio card and also software to capture 6 streams at once, but can it be done? I'm grateful for all practical suggestions.

Using Google to research the topic of capturing 5.1 audio turned up very little, and nothing cheap. This thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/709551 claimed the Hauppauge HD-PVR can do it, from SPDIF in.

Strange, I assumed it would be possible to do this at home somehow. I saw a ripped Leslie Nielsen movie once that had 5.1 even though the only dvd was 2.0 stereo.

The "rip" itself or the audio used might have been from cable/satellite not DVD.
You could try searching VideoHelp for more information, but I thought you probably already had and didn't find anything.
