    VOB2MPG - VIDEO_TS AND VTS_01_0 aspect ratio problem:

Video_TS is in 4:3 aspect ratio

VTS_01_0 is in 16:9 aspect ratio

When I play the DVD, it comes out looking 16:9 properly, even on the VOB2MPG preview it is 16:9, but when I use VOB2MPG to extract, it comes out looking 4:3 argh!

This is the only DVD I ran into that does this.

Any ideas on how I can extract it so when it plays it's 16:9?

  3. There is aspect info in the video as well as the IFO. Try DVDPatcher.

Interesting. An ntsc menu and pal movie. How can that be possible even though it's a DVDR? Why would specs from the menu be transfered to MPG?

    I will try this DVDPatcher.

    Thank you for your replies.

    Edit:
Used DVDPatcher on it and it did change the Aspect Ration from 4:3 to 16:9. However, the indesing got all out of whack, it doesn't seek properly, you fast forward to the middle and it still displays the beginning of the video.

That's almost the ONLY way it is possible.

For anyone else who might come across this problem, after trying dozens of different video tools, I solved it in combination with DVDPatcher 1.06 recommended above by Jikchung.

To fix the indexing problem after DVDPatcher is applied, use TMPGEnc Xpress 4.7.4.299 MPEG Tools to demux the whole thing.

Then use TsRemux 0.21.20.23.2 hobBIT to remux. This fixes the seek problem.

Aspect ratio fixed, MPEG seeks perfectly, problem solved.

Hopes this helps others who come by this problem.

Have you tried patching the first header only in dvd patcher? Perhaps that doesn't muck up the indexing?

How ya doing ChrissyBoy, yes, that was the first option I tried but it didn't change the aspect ratio. TsRemux actually did an excellent job indexing with no quality loss, very precise and tight seeking afterwards, even better than most MPG videos I have.

    Cheers!
